Buying the right burner and PENS
Buying a woodburner can be
overwhelming. There are so many brands on the market, so many options,
warranties, etc. We want to make your buying experience pleasurable and we
want to be sure that you have the right burner and tools for your needs and
budget.
If you are
unsure of which burner or pens to choose, please
contact Nedra to
discuss your specific needs.
Nibsburner
Burning Pens
We recommend and primarily
sell fixed-tip pens, which are recommended
for general pyrography use. Replaceable-tips are normally recommended
for only intermittent light use such as for enhancing carvings.
So, I will be
carrying the replaceable tips in the styles more commonly used by
woodcarvers and the styles more commonly used by pyrographer's and gourd
artists will be available in fixed-tip styles.
NEW PEN STYLES AVAILABLE JUST FROM
ME :
Nibsburner has been working with me to
make my favorite pen styles including the Bent Spear Shader (5BSM &
5BSSM); Small spear for detail work such as on gourds (5NS & 5NSS) and the
blunt-heel knife (KN14B & 14 BM). These are all exclusive pens only
available from me. Go to our
Nibsburner Pen store to check them out!
The new Colwood fixed-tip
pens with foam grips are now just as comfortable to use as Razertip and
Optima and with the polished tips you won't be able to tell the difference
except for the great lower prices. These are the most durable tips available with pre-sharpened and highly polished nichrome tips, ready to go right out of the package. Shorter length tips allow you
to get closer to your work and have more control. The
foam pen grips are soft and comfortable and no scorched fingers.
For a complete tutorial on
the uses, selection and care, please

"Pyrography 101" Nibsburner tutorial.
The tutorial
contains everything you need to know about Razertip burners and pens, FAQ's and photos with examples of how the pens can be used. It can be a
great guide to help you decide which pens you might need or how to use the ones
you already have and don't know what to do with. There is also a tutorial
on other aspects of woodburning, such as safety, wood selection and prep,
supplies and more.

WHY ARE WOODBURNING PENS SO
EXPENSIVE
This is a commonly asked question
and I'll try to explain. Until my recent trip to Colorado and a visit
with Alice Bongirno, owner of Nibsburner I couldn't honestly answer this
question but now I can and will do the best I can to give you an idea of just
what is involved in the process of making woodburning pens. Some companies
may have lots of employees making their equipment but not Nibsburner.
Alice is it. She is not only the owner but she personally makes every
woodburner, tip and handpiece herself and she stands behind everything she
makes.
Making woodburning tips and
handpieces
Each handpiece and tip is hand
made by Alice and it all starts with an idea...maybe Alice's, mine or someone
else with a special need. In the case of the pens she
made for me they
are based on my specifications and several sample tips are made
for me to check out, use and determine which is just the right one. Often
when making tips like this they may have to be made over until the it turns out
exactly the way I (or any other person ordering specialized tips). Alice
then makes a template so they are consistent each time.
Each tip starts with a nichrome
wire that she cuts to size from a large spool. She then shapes the wire
according to the template for each tip. The wires are put together and
then spot welded and trimmed. The tips is then punched (to flatten) with a
special machine. Once the tips is pressed Alice uses a wet/dry sander and
the tips is shaped on the white sanding stone and then sharpened with the green
wet stone. The last step is the most important, the buffing. This is
where the tips is finely polished "to an inch of it's life" according to Alice.
Once the tips is made it has to be put into a handpiece which is also handmade.
Alice takes copper wire which she manually wraps and inserts into each
handpiece. She also manually drills each vent hole in the handpiece and
puts the cork grip onto each handpiece. The tips is attached and soldered
onto the copper wires inside the handpiece.
Every tip, every handpiece and
every burner is hand made by Alice. It is a very time consuming process
and I must admit far more complicated than I had imagined. It gave me a
new perspective on the entire process and I was thrilled that Alice took the
time to provide me with a real education.

NEDRA'S SERVICE AND PRICING
Shop and compare! Yes, there are dealers who
offer deep discounts but do they specialize in woodburning tools? The
answer to that is no. Can they offer you the expert advise of a
professional woodburner? The answer again is no. Not only do I
provide you with the best service from an expert in the field, but I also offer
you very competitive prices!
So, while you might save a few
dollars from another dealer, will you get the expert advise from a professional
woodburner....NO! I am a woodburner and have experience with every brand
of woodburner on the market so I can make honest recommendations based on my
personal experience over the last nine years. I also have the philosophy
that less is better. I'm not in this business to sell you a bunch of pens
and accessories you don't need. So, if you really want expert advise and
want to deal with someone who will only sell you what you need, please shop our
store and if you need help making the right choice, please call me!
But if you're shopping for price and not
advise please feel free to shop elsewhere for guidance and to purchase a burner, but if you want the best advise and service, this is the
place to shop!
We sell woodburning tools and accessories...that's
my specialty so I know my business and the tools I sell. I use them and I
can help you make the right choice. I have
been selling woodburning tools for over 9 years and
have always offered our customers discounted prices and will continue to do so.
I will not, however price match eBay or other dealers who sell at deeply
discounted prices.
