About Nibsburner's History
In 1983, a frustrated woodcarver named Nibs sat in his studio wishing pyrography tools would effectively control the burning temperatures. He appreciated the effects wood burning added to his bird carvings but was not happy with the burning tools he had been using. Inspired with the possibilities of controlled temperature wood burning, Nibs decided to build his own woodburner. A retired electrician, he combined his knowledge of electricity and love of carving to produce an effective woodburner. Nibs perfected the wood burning unit in 1984 and named it after himself calling it "The Nibsburner".
Alice Bongirno joined Nibs in the fall of 1988 and in the next 16 years working with him she gained a wealth of experience in all aspects of wood burning and manufacturing. In May of 2004 due to poor health and age Nibs decided it was time to retire and Alice bought the company. Nibsburner continues its commitment to manufacturing quality products and providing the best customer service. Nibsburner continues to make Improvements and new products to enhance the Nibsburner product line.

Buying the Right Burner and Tip Styles for Your Needs
Buying a woodburner can be overwhelming. There are so many brands on the market, so many options, warranties, etc. I want to make your buying experience pleasurable and I want to be sure that you have the right burner and tools for your needs and budget.

I carry the Razertip tip cleaner, which are located at the bottom of the page. Also available to clean your pens are aluminum oxide powder and the strop that also can be found on the at the bottom of the page. These are great tools for cleaning the carbon off the tips and polishing without damaging the tips. It will preserve the life of your tips with proper use. My kits offer you both options.
Why Are Pyrography Pens So Expensive?
This is a commonly asked question and I'll try to explain. Until my recent trip to Colorado and a visit with Alice Bongirno, owner of Nibsburner I couldn't honestly answer this question but now I can and will do the best I can to give you an idea of just what is involved in the process of making wood burning pens. Some companies may have lots of employees making their equipment but not Nibsburner. Alice is it. She is not only the owner but she personally makes every woodburner, tip and Pen herself and she stands behind everything she makes.
Watching Alice Make Pyrography Tips and Handpieces
Each Pen and tip is hand made by Alice and it all starts with an idea...maybe Alice's, mine or someone else with a special need. In the case of the pens she made for me they
are based on my specifications and several sample tips are made for me to check out, use and determine which is just the right one. Often when making tips like this they may have to be made over until the it turns out exactly the way I (or any other person ordering specialized tips). Alice then makes a template so they are consistent each time.
Each tip starts with a nichrome wire that she cuts to size from a large spool. She then shapes the wire according to the template for each tip. The wires are put together and then spot 
welded and trimmed. The tips is then punched (to flatten) with a special machine. Once the tips is pressed Alice uses a wet/dry sander and the tips is shaped on the white sanding stone and then sharpened with the green wet stone. he last step is the most important, the buffing. This is where the tips is finely polished "to an inch of it's life" according to Alice. Once the tips is made it has to be put into a Pen which is also handmade.
Alice takes copper wire which she manually wraps and inserts into each Pen. She also manually drills each vent hole in the Pen and puts the cork grip onto each Pen. The tips is attached and soldered onto the copper wires inside the Pen. Every tip, every Pen and every burner is hand made by Alice. It is a very time consuming process and I must admit far more complicated than I had imagined. It gave me a new perspective on the entire process and I was thrilled that Alice took the time to provide me with a real education.

Nibsburner guarantees all burners for two years from the date of purchase. Hand pieces and tips are guaranteed for 90 days from the date of purchase with normal use. Nibsburner provides great customer service and will take care of any problem you might have.

I have been selling Nibsburner wood burning tools and accessories for a couple of years but based on my experience and expertise I stock the pyrography pens that I have found to be the most commonly used and most versatile. I'm more for versatility than single-use type tip styles. If there is a style that you need and I do not carry it I will order it for you and have the order drop shipped directly from Nibsburner.
I will still offer the discount on all fixed-tip pens. I cannot discount the removable tips due to very little profit margin but I can adjust the shipping and handling to make up for it.

WD400 Strop BEST SELLER These stops are unique because of the special rubber-like material used on the strop. This material eliminates the inconsistencies of leather and will greatly outlast leather strops. The strop surface can be renewed periodically with a little detergent and water. Each strop is bound to a wooden handle and has a round edge. These are great for honing carving tools and wood burning tips. Pyrography Pen Holder
I had been asking Alan to make me a pen holder to organize my wood burning pens for quite some time. Together we tested out several designs until we came up with just the right design that was efficient, didn't take up much space and easy to see the pens!
The holder accommodates up to 10 pens in their plastic storage tube. They are hand made by Alan out of solid wood (maple, birch and cherry) and sealed with a protective finish.
