Metallic Ink Dye and Gold
Leafing
- the metallic ink dyes come in 16 brilliant colors and
are thicker than the regular Gourd Ink Dyes. Metallic Gourd Inks are
applied using a paintbrush or Microbrush (not an Applicator Cube) and go on as a
solid color (they are not transparent). Like the regular gourd ink dyes
they are fade resistant.
Maria Dellos is the original
developer of the techniques for using ink dyes and leafing on gourds along with metallic gel
glazes and other products by Terra Bella Finishes. Since Maria developed the
techniques using these unique
products on gourds and has been teaching others her techniques, everyone is following in her footsteps.

Don't forget to check out the
regular gourd ink dyes. They are slow drying and very blendable so you can
create your own colors. They are easy and fun to use and they won’t fade,
leave lines or streak like alcohol based products
such as leather dyes. Heat setting the dyes with a heat embossing tool
prevents smearing wet inks and dries the colors in seconds so the ink does not
smear.
The gourd ink dyes are very concentrated so
a little goes a very long way. One tiny drop will cover a very large area
so less is always better. To make the most of the dyes I recommend using
the ink applicator cubes and marking the colors so you can reuse them over and
over again. You can also use sponge wedges to cover larger areas, seal
them in small zip-lock bags when you are finished or wash them out with soap and
water to reuse them.
